Multi-Cultural Awareness Training
7 pm to 10 pm
Oakey Community Centre
Presenter: Elizabeth Jones, Multicultural Development Officer, Toowoomba Regional Council
Oakey is becoming a more diverse society, firstly with the coming of the Singapore Airforce a number of years ago, and now with Brazilians, South Koreans and other guest workers working at the Oakey Abattoir and Beef City. This trend is likely to continue with labour shortages.
These people make significant contributions to our economy by renting in town, buying from businesses, and in other ways. They can also be a valuable cultural and social addition to our community fabric.
If you want to know how to interact with people from different cultures, who speak different languages, and have different perceptions, then here is the opportunity to learn how. Come along to this session for an introduction.
There are also plans to offer Conversational English classes for these guests’ workers to better their communication skills, and be able to participate more fully in our community.
RSVP to email David Totenhofer or phone Oakey Service Centre on 4691 1388 by Friday 11th July. There is no charge - this is a Toowoomba Regional Council community service.
